Your visit

How to prepare

Tap a card for quick, practical tips.

Medical History, Cycle Log & DocumentationAll Consultations
  • Bring your South African ID or passport and your valid medical aid membership card.
  • Track and record the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP), cycle length, flow heaviness, and any intermenstrual spotting.
  • Bring a list of all current chronic medications, hormonal contraceptives, supplements, and known drug allergies.
  • Write down your primary symptoms, how long they have been present, and your top questions for Dr Rasenyai.
Preparing for a Pap Smear or HPV TestCervical Screening
  • Schedule your appointment for a day when you are not menstruating, as blood can obscure cervical cytology cells.
  • For 24 to 48 hours prior to your Pap smear, avoid vaginal intercourse, douching, tampons, vaginal lubricants, and intravaginal creams or pessaries.
  • Bring any prior abnormal Pap smear or colposcopy histology reports for comparative review.
First Prenatal Visit (8–10 Weeks Gestation)Antenatal Care
  • We recommend scheduling your initial antenatal booking visit between 8 and 10 weeks of pregnancy.
  • Prepare details of your personal and family medical history, including hypertension, diabetes, twin pregnancies, or genetic conditions.
  • Bring records of any previous pregnancies, modes of delivery (normal vaginal birth or caesarean section), and antenatal blood group results if known.
IUCD (Mirena / Copper T) Insertion or RemovalFamily Planning
  • Where possible, schedule IUCD insertion during the first 7 days of your menstrual cycle when the cervix is naturally softer and early pregnancy can be reliably excluded.
  • You may take an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory analgesic (such as ibuprofen, if not contraindicated) 60 minutes before your appointment to minimise uterine cramping.
  • Bring a sanitary pad (not a tampon) for light post-procedural spotting.
Pelvic or Obstetric Ultrasound Bladder RulesDiagnostic Imaging
  • Transabdominal Ultrasound (Early pregnancy or virgin/adolescent pelvic scan): Drink 3 to 4 glasses of water 1 hour before your appointment and do not empty your bladder, as a full bladder creates an acoustic window to visualise the uterus.
  • Transvaginal Ultrasound (Detailed gynaecological, fibroid, endometriosis, or follicular tracking scan): You will be asked to empty your bladder completely just before the scan for optimal comfort and proximity to the pelvic organs.
Pre-Operative & Second-Opinion ConsultationsSurgical Opinion
  • Bring all referral letters, previous pelvic ultrasound images or reports, MRI scans, hysterosalpingogram (HSG) films, and laboratory blood results.
  • Bring previous surgical theatre notes if you have undergone prior laparoscopy, myomectomy, or caesarean delivery.
  • Write down questions regarding minimally invasive laparoscopic options, hospital stay duration, recovery timelines, and fertility preservation.
